Kiva
Picture
Kiva is our Great Pyraness/Antolian Shepard mix, and came to us as a rescue in 2012 after a very traumatic puppihood. She has come a long way, but is a grand dame at the age of nine now, and likes things as she likes them- and doesn't mind telling you about via song, howl, or the most expressive face you could imagine.
Kiva is indeed a LGD (large guard dog) by genetics, but she grew up mostly in Lancaster City, PA, and got real comfy with takeout pizza, and guarding her Nona while lounging on the couch eating peanut butter toast. She is definitely a more mellow gal out here in Trough Creek Valley, which is lovely to witness- now we just have to wait and see how she does with the peeps and chicks when they arrive this spring. Hopefully that LDG instinct will kick in, and she'll help protect them...as long as the peanut butter toast is ready when she comes back in the house...
Odie
Picture
Odie came to us via the Bedford County Humane league in the fall of 2020. He had spent most of his life in a shelter, so he was really used to people, and lots of attention.  We believe he's a Miniature Pinscher/Rat Terrier mix, and he's double in size since we got him!  He is a sweet, sweet boy through and through, and came along just at the right time for our family- about 4months after we had to say goodbye to our dear Huna Bear.  He loves Kiva so much, and has definitely brought out the playfulness in her again, all the while, reminding us that a good game of ball and fetch will pick up your spirit anytime of day.
Odie is fast as lightning, and loves to "hunt" squirrels, rabbits, and anything else that goes scratch in the night. So far he hasn't caught anything...but most likely that's due to his tether (our house is near the road), and Kiva not wanting him to one up her, but maybe one day he'll finally get that stinkin' squirrel.

We have been so blessed with amazing representatives from the dog nation for the last 16yrs...and as we all know, there is time when we have to say goodbye to our dearest of dear friends. Even though we miss their particular ways of loving us and having fun, we yet feel Jupiter's and Huna's spirits with us, still loving us in sweet and unexpected ways.
To all the doggo and animals friends that continue to teach us so much- we love you.
